This is a regular Master's Programme of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. We offer the specializations Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Community Development and Family and Child Welfare. MSW has numerous career opportunities in the country and abroad. Duration of the course The course is extended over a period of two academic years consisting of four semesters. Objective The prime objective of the course is to mould the students into socially committed, skilled and capable individuals who are able to contribute for the development of the nation by providing with a sound background in philosophy, sociology, psychology, counseling, health and hospital information system, community health management, social work research and to create in them deep social awareness. Methodology The teaching methodology includes classroom lectures, fieldwork, seminars, audio-visual programs, skill training and practices, project work, block placement etc. Live labs Santhigiri College has a rich background of social work. We have a hostel for the children with disabilities and we are implementing rehabilitation programs for the persons with disabilities in eight Panchayaths. We have several Self Help Groups, Income Generation Programmes, Mini industries, Employment Exchange, Marriage Bureau, Help Line and the like. All these will serve as Live Labs for the MSW students. Eligibility All graduates in the Faculties of Arts, Law, Social Science, Oriental Studies, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate for Part I & Part III subjects and all graduates in Faculties of Science and Commerce with not less than 55% marks in aggregate in Part I & Part III subjects.
